The program emphasizes the role of informatics trained professionals as liaisons who brings both a background of medicine as well as knowledge of information technology to the task of solving health care problems. The curriculum consists of 32 credits of coursework that includes:
8 credits of health informatics
4 credits of technology-focused health administration
3 credits of statistics and research design
6 credits of coursework in the student's chosen area of specialization
6 credits of electives
2 credits of Seminar
3 credit Capstone course in which the student will complete a project directly applicable to their own work environment.
The program has several new features that will make it more friendly to working health professionals. The program is designed to be completed in one calendar year for full time students and in up to three years for part-time students.
